Aware Bear Computer Repair 5 Monroe Ave Pittsford NY 14534 (585)473-7035 had the chance to review the new HP Envy 14 laptop. The HP Envy 14 is a solid heavy duty computer and has a very innovative futuristic design. HP also dropped its price from last year to this year making this laptop more affordable than never.
You will find out that for the price the new HP Envy 14 is a real good deal. It is a solid laptop with an aluminum frame however is not very heavy. Aware Bear Computer repair certified technicians tested the HP Envy 14 inch priced at $999 with a Core i3 processor, a Core i5 processor can be added bringing the price to $1,049 and for the people that need the extra processing power a Core i7 brings the HP Envy 14 to $1,600. Many laptops in the $999 price range feel really plastic and cheap.
The new HP Envy 14 had an upgrade from ATI to Nvidia graphics and sound cards. Many gamers are still getting used to the upgrade. Apple computers on the other hand also upgraded their graphic cards from Intel into Nvida and so far things have been working for Macintosh.
“The video and volume controls have a bit of a lag when playing games or using high end video applications nothing too bad. Have to be careful not to use the bottoms while playing a game because it will kick you out of the main screen in order for the graphic interface to work. I am really used to the ATI products and has been a few years that I personally owned a Nvidia product on a PC besides the Mac. The last time I used a Nvidia product was back in the Gforce line and the video cards were awesome back then.” Says Aware Bear Computer Repair owner Andre Leite Alves in Rochester NY.
Overall the Envy 14 runs great, does not put out a lot of heat like its preceptors DV2000, DV6000, DV9000, the design is very slick and sophisticated plus with the heavy duty frame makes this laptop a work horse. Almost as tough as the tough books but not quite.
Like many other laptops running Windows 7 it can have problems getting out of the hibernate mode. “I have seen this problem over and over with DELL, Toshiba, HP, Alienware or any other PC running Windows 7. It can be a laptop or desktop the Windows 7 does not like to wake up once it goes into sleep.” says Arthur Leite from Aware Bear Computer Repair Pittsford NY.
Windows 7 still pretty new and I am sure service packs will be out soon to correct small problems. Windows XP runs very good now after the Service Pack 3 and Windows Vista is also running well after the service packs came out about six months ago.
